Daily Chinese astrological I Ching reading: 8/31/14

8/31 is the day of Wood Dog in the month of Water Rooster. The combination is potentially discordant, as Dog clashes with Rooster, but Water nourishes Wood making it productive. It suggests being resourceful, and it brings out the deity of Proper Authority. Proper Authority deity encourages you to be trustworthy, upright, rational, responsible, and forthright. Proper Authority favors people working in fields of service, management, law, and administration. The signs that Dog favors include Tiger, Horse, Rabbit, Monkey, and Snake, and Dog. The signs that Dog challenges are Dragon, Sheep, Ox, Rooster, Pig, and Rat. The Wood of Wood Dog offers growth to Pig; pleasure and love to Rat; and increasing energy to Tiger, Rabbit, and Dragon. This is a peak day for Rabbit. But, because Rabbit clashes with Dog, Rabbit could become irritable under pressure. Dog brings out the Star of Arts for Tiger, Horse, and Dog. Creative people born in the year or day of these signs are favored.
The hexagram of this day, according to the King Wen method, is number 40, line 2

Hexagram 40 is Deliverance, or Release. It has an image of a prisoner being released from jail. Difficulties resolve. Differences are resolved. Grass and trees grow abundantly. This hexagram is strong in spring, weak in fall, we are in Chinese fall season.

Line 2 advises to eliminate selfish motives, and not take everything personally. Difficulties are not necessarily your fault. The zodiac sign of line 2, Dragon, is strongly supported by the signs of lines 4 and 6, both changing lines. Lines 4 and 6 together generate strong Fire, and Fire enriches and supports Dragon. Dragon, then, is in opposition with Dog, the sign of the day, but is in a very productive relation with Rooster, the sign of the month. Meet your challenge. It will pass, and your efforts will be rewarded with good fortune.  The Wood of Wood Dog puts a raven in line 2. It warns not to quarrel, and not to gossip.

The elements of this hexagram are Wood, Water, and Wood. This is very productive.
