Daily Chinese astrological I Ching reading: 8/20

Today is 8/20, the day of Water Pig in the month of Water Monkey, a deceptively discordant day. It gives Pig a knife blade, warning of intolerance and anger. It also brings out Competitive Deity. Competitive Deity favors independent, adventurous, energetic occupations with a minimum of constraint. The day brings the Traveling Horse Star to Snake, Rooster, and Ox. For these signs it is a good day to travel, make changes at home, move house, and/or make significant changes at work. The day brings high energy to Dog, Pig, and Rat. It is a peak day for Pig. The day gives financial prospects to Rat and Sheep, growth to Rabbit, and romantic prospects to Tiger.
The hexagram for today, using the King Wen method, is number 20, line 4.

Hexagram 20 Contemplation, or Observation. It shows anticipation of movement. The hexagram is good in fall; we are in Chinese fall season.

Line 4 favors having a broad outlook, and considering what is of universal benefit. The water of Water Pig gives a worm to line 4. It means that there are hindrances. This goes against Competitive Deity, and brings out dangers of intolerance, as shown by the knife blade in today's sign, Pig. Line 4 is in a complex condition. Its signs are Rabbit changing into Pig. While it is strongly supported by lines 6 and 2, both changing lines, Pig fights with the day sign, Pig, and is then in discord with the month sign, Monkey. It says that even though you have support, fighting will result in losses. Consider the odds.

The elements of the hexagram are Metal, Earth, and Wood. It is neither good nor bad; it is not productive. It favors looking far into the future, hence Contemplation; consider what is of ultimate meaning.
