Chinese astrological I Ching reading: 1/17/16

1/17 is the day of Earth Dog in the month of Earth Ox. This is a partly harmonious combination. It brings out Competitive Deity who favors those who are independent and competitive. It also brings out a star called Tian Yi who helps resolve difficulties, and gives luck.
Dog is the Star of Arts for Tiger, Horse, and Dog. If you were born in a year or day of one of these three signs this is a good day for creative work. If you are an artist, or inventor, this is very good.
Dog generally favors Dog, Tiger, Horse, Rabbit, and Monkey; is neutral toward Pig, Rat, and Snake; clashes with Ox, Dragon, and Sheep; and is ambivalent toward Rooster.
The I Ching hexagram for this day, using the King Wen method, is number 33, line 2.

Hexagram 33 is Tun, Withdrawing. Success in tending to details.

Line 2 advises cooperating with others if you can't tear yourself loose. The zodiac signs for line 2 are Horse and Dragon. Dragon is empty. This means that Horse does not change, and is obstinate. Horse is weak by the season. This makes it arrogant. By the hexagram, Horse represents one's ability to stand up to opposition. It is not good to be weak and have an arrogant attitude. Horse mostly clashes with the signs of changing lines, 3, 4, and 5. Horse is in harmony with the sign of the day, and clashes with the sign of the month. Assuming that one has the strength that one doesn't have walks into disaster. The Earth of Earth Dog day puts a snake in line 2. Success is found in withdrawing from potential conflict, while being mindful of details and hidden dangers along the way.
